The European Computer Driving Licence
is a popular, internationally respected, vocational qualification in basic personal computing skills.
It is not designed specifically for information technology professionals - rather it is for those who wish to gain a basic qualification in computing to help them with their current work or study, and to help them to grow their skills and enhance their career prospects. It has become the most widely recognised qualification in the field of work-related computer use with over 7 million candidates in 146 countries worldwide.
The ECDL has been developed and is monitored by the ECDL Foundation. The role of the Foundation is to promote and co-ordinate the development of the ECDL concept and act as guarantor of the ECDL standard. The Foundation ensures that the ECDL is administered in an equitable manner throughout Europe and internationally, a role that has now developed to cover the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL).
Activities relating to the ECDL in Poland are co-ordinated by The Polish Information Processing Society (PTI), which is one of the 19 computer societies (representing some 250,000 members across Europe) which both approve and support the ECDL.
